Ahmed Zaki Passes Away

Ahmed Zaki (1948 – 2005), the Egyptian Actor passed away today, after staying in coma for eight days. The actor suffered from lung cancer.

Zaki who was a revolutionary back at the 70’s, by breaking the Egyptian movie industry prejudice against dark-skinned actors, who usually get minor roles in the movies. He rose to starring roles with his undisputed talent and charm, and became one of Egypt’s most celebrated actors. Egyptian actor Omar Sharif once told him that if he was fluent in English or French, he could’ve been one the most celebrated actors in the world.

He was famous for portraying complex characters, celeberties and Egyptian Presidents such as Anwar El-Sadat and Gamal Abdel Nasser in his movies. He died without finishing one of his biggest dreams, which is the making of the movie Halim about the life of the celebrated Egyptian singer Abd al-Halim Hafiz.
